Materials

Wooden Base: 110 holes (approx. 29.5 inches long, 16 inches wide, and 6mm thick). The holes are 12mm wide and spaced 10mm apart. Crochet Hooks: 9 mm crochet hook (Main hook. Use a solid metal or wooden hook. Avoid fragile hooks as the heavy cord can snap them.) 8 mm crochet hook (Used for tight spaces.) Notions: Scissors, tape measure, unscented hand moisturizer (thick cord can dry hands out!), and about 7 locking stitch markers. Gauge & Dimensions: 7 Waistcoat sts x 9 rows = 4" x 4" (10 x 10 cm). Note: Meeting gauge is important so your basket walls stand straight and you don't run out of cord.

Abbreviations (us terms)

ch: chain sc: single crochet sl st: slip stitch st(s): stitch(es) rnd(s): round(s)

Special Techniques Waistcoat Stitch (Center Single Crochet): Look at the "V" shape of the stitch below. Push your hook straight through the center of that "V" (instead of under the top loops). Complete a regular single crochet. Invisible Join: Take your hook out of your active loop. Push the hook from back to front through the left side of the very first stitch of the round. Put the active loop back on the hook and pull it to the back. Take your hook out of the loop again. Push your hook through the center of the first Waistcoat stitch of the round (do not use the beginning ch-1). Yarn over and pull up a loop to the front. Put the dropped loop back onto your hook (you now have 2 loops). Yarn over and pull through both loops. Invisible Closure: Cut your cord. Pull the tail completely up and out of the last stitch. Feed the tail from front to back around the very first stitch of the round. Push the tail down into the top of the very last stitch of the round, pulling it inside the basket. Tie a tight knot on the inside and hide the tail under nearby stitches. Adding a New Bundle of Cord: Hold the tail of the old cord and the tail of the new cord together. Start crocheting with the new cord.
