ch = chain sc = single crochet inc = increase (work 2 single crochet into the same stitch) sl st = slip stitch st(s) = stitch(es) YO = yarn over back bump = the extra loop running along the back of a crochet chain

Notes

You will make two identical flower pieces and sew them together. The petals are worked directly onto the finished flower centers. The petals use a Tunisian crochet technique: you will pick up multiple loops on your hook before pulling the yarn through them. Each petal takes up exactly 3 stitches along the edge of the flower center. For the petals, when the pattern asks you to pick up loops from the "back bumps" in Rows 2 through 6, you will be inserting your hook into the back horizontal bumps created by the return pass of the previous row.
